As President Obama prepares to give his State of the Union speech, Defense One takes a closer look at the nation's military and the state of defense.

In this year’s “State of Defense” Defense One explores how the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines are planning on moving beyond sequestration and uncertainty and into the era of constant combat in surprise conflicts. Last year was supposed to be the time for the military to reset, but world events had something else in mind, demanding U.S. intervention and attention at a faster pace and in more hotspots than ever.
