New broadband satellite router geared toward military

Introduced at LandWarNet 2009, the router has integrated Federal Information Processing Standards 140-2 cryptographic security.

Hughes Network Solutions introduced a new broadband satellite router with enhanced security features and on-the-move capabilities geared toward the government and military.

Introduced at LandWarNet, the router has integrated Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 cryptographic security and supports the newly released HX System Enhanced Signaling Security feature, which protects all data, management and signaling traffic over the satellite network.

The HX280 is a commercial-off-the-shelf router configurable for both star and mesh IP networks. It maintains secure communications in both fixed and mobile environments. The system is designed to operate with Hughes’ simplified Network Management System, available later in the year, said Rick Lober, vice president and general manager of the Defense and Intelligence Systems Division at Hughes.
