Navy sets new award date for NGEN
The Navy has pushed back the date for its award of the Next Generation Enterprise Network nearly three months because of the complex and extensive source selection process being conducted.
The Navy has pushed back the date for its award of the Next Generation Enterprise Network transport and enterprise services contracts nearly three months because of the complex and extensive source selection process being conducted, the military service said Jan. 31.
Those NGEN contracts are now scheduled for award in May, the service said. The Navy originally intended to award the contracts Feb. 12.
“Due to the complexities of the NGEN requirements, we are changing our contract award estimate in order to ensure a complete and thorough review of offerors’ bids,” said Ed Austin, spokesman for the Program Executive Office for Enterprise Information Systems.
The continuing resolution and the possibility of sequestration have not affected the NGEN contract award schedule, the Navy said. It remains unclear how they might influence the NGEN award schedule in the future, the service said.
NGEN will replace the existing Navy-Marine Corps Intranet, which furnishes secure IT services to more than 700,000 users at 2,500 Navy and Marine Corps bases worldwide.
