The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency is envisioning future armored vehicles that can dodge incoming threats or shift armor in the direction of enemy fire.
A video released on Friday demonstrates what the agency’s new Ground X-Vehicle Technologies (GXV-T) program is looking to build.
The program is looking at ways to increase survivability through agility, rather than armor. The amount of armor needed to combat current threats has become increasingly burdensome and significantly reduces mobility and agility, according to the release. The agency ultimately is looking to create smaller, faster vehicles that could more efficiently operate in different environments.
Having held a Proposers’ Day on Sept. 5, DARPA said it will release two Broad Agency Announcements with full technical details in the near future.
