Army orders helicopter crew simulators
The Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation has ordered simulators on which to train helicopter crews for gunnery and cargo tasks.
Science Applications International Corp. will furnish simulators to the Army that will be used to train crews of CH-47 and UH-60 helicopters under a new delivery order potentially worth $12 million over 28 months.
Under the agreement, SAIC will deliver integrated crew member simulators to the Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation, company officials said Feb. 11. Specifically, SAIC will design, develop, integrate, test and maintain two mobile variants to support gunnery and crew coordination training.

As part of the project, SAIC will integrate the simulators with the Army’s Combined Arm Tactical Trainer simulators, the officials said.
The integrated simulators will enable non-rated crew members to train on critical tasks requiring coordination with pilots such as gunnery, sling load and hoist operations, company officials said.
The training effort is part of the Non-rated Crew Member Manned Module program. The Army made the delivery order under the second STRI Omnibus Contract.
