Marines to make major computer equipment buy

The Marine Corps is planning to spend $880 million to buy desktop and laptop computers and also rugged tablet computers through a five-year hardware contract.

The Marine Corps will soon spend $880 million to buy more than 400,000 desktop and laptop computers, and also a smaller number of commercial and rugged tablet computers through the Marine Corps Common Hardware Suite procurement contract, reports NextGov.

The Marines’ shopping list under the five-year contract vehicle includes 131,965 general purpose laptops and 141,838 desktop computers, the media outlet said.

The service also will use the contract as an umbrella vehicle to acquire 7,220 commercial tablet computers and 7,880 rugged tablet computers, and also 15,850 small, lightweight netbook computers.
