Senate confirms Carter to serve in DOD's No. 2 post

The Senate Sept. 23 confirmed the nomination of Ashton Carter to take over as the Defense Department's next deputy defense secretary.

The Senate Sept. 23 confirmed the nomination of Ashton Carter to take over as the Defense Department’s next deputy defense secretary, reports American Forces Press Service.

Carter, who will succeed William Lynn, has served as undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics since April 2009.

“He is already an essential part of my team as an outstanding undersecretary of defense, and I look forward to his continued guidance and leadership as he assumes his new position," Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta said in a statement issued the same day.
