The Navy recently established a year-long pilot program for the Kearsarge Expeditionary Strike Group to test a portable maritime command and control system built around Oceus Networks' Xiphos cellular technology, the company said.
The deployment of the mobile communications networking technology will serve as the first operational deployment of 4G LTE for the Defense Department, according to the company.
The Xiphos tactical cellular technology will furnish high-capacity secure wireless broadband for real-time access to intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance data for intraship communications over the horizon, and also intership communications via commercial hand-held devices, the company said.
