The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has established a program known as Plan X through which it plans to create new technologies that will enable the Pentagon to better coordinate and improve its cyberattack capabilities, reports NextGov.

Specifically, Plan X will establish a foundation for the development of malware and other computer espionage tools that might be used offensively against foreign networks, the story said.

“The objective of the Plan X program is to create revolutionary technologies for understanding, planning, and managing cyberwarfare in real-time, large-scale, and dynamic network environments,” states a DARPA notice published Aug. 20.

The program won't actually create malware, but will establish the architectural foundation that would support the deployment of such technology, the story said.
