QinetiQ wins Navy contract for Talon robots

QinetiQ North America has won a $6.8 million contract from the Navy for Talon Generation IV Engineer robot vehicles, Defense Department officials said  Oct. 15. 

The company will furnish vehicles, spares and accessories and also be responsible for depot level repair parts, shipping and training.

The Talon IV is designed for use by combat engineers to assist them in such missions as route clearance, mine detection, vehicle inspections and route surveillance, according to the company. It features an arm that can extend up to 7 feet and support 65 pounds and comes with a laptop control unit with a gamepad user interface.

The contract includes Foreign Military Sales to Poland. The Naval Surface Warfare Center's Indian Head Division in Indian Head, Md., is the contracting activity.
