Army Contracting Command, Fort Dix, N.J., awarded a $56.7 million contract to Northrop Grumman Information Technology, McLean, Va., for the procurement of Army Knowledge Online Enterprise Services (AKO-ES) in support of Product Director AKO located at Fort Belvoir, Va.

Under the contract, Northrop Grumman Information Technology will provide operations and maintenance, portal and application modifications, help-desk support and enhancement services for the AKO-ES system. The period of performance will be for a base period of 12 months with a 12-month option.

The Army Contracting Command reports that the contract was not awarded as a fixed-price type because “it was not possible to estimate accurately the extent or duration of the work or to anticipate costs with any reasonable degree of confidence.” As such, a time-and-materials type action was awarded for non-commercial supplies and services.

AKO-ES provides web-based enterprise information services to over 2.5 million Army, joint, and DoD customers, including retirees and family members in every country where the DoD has a presence on a 24-hour/7 days a week/365 days a year basis. Enterprise services are provided to these customers on both classified and unclassified networks, and include portal, email, instant messaging, directory, discovery, and single sign-on.
