Defense Logistics Agency looks to pRFID for better inventory management
New radio frequency identification labels expected to improve speed and accuracy of DLA Distribution tracking.
The Defense Logistics Agency Distribution command is pursuing the procurement of radio frequency identification to track material at all DLA distribution depots. Under guidance from the Defense Department, DLA Distribution is seeking 4 inch by 6 inch and 4 inch by 2 inch adhesive thermal transfer labels embedded with a passive RFID antenna and chip for both internal and external use.
The pRFID labels will replace the internal tracking and identification labels used with the Defense Standard System, the DLA's highly automated warehouse management system. The pRFID labels are expected to significantly improve the processing speed and accuracy of the depots’ automated systems. To offer increased value, the pRFID technology is required to have durability and legibility beyond its immediate function for further downstream tracking in the supply chain.
The procurement contract will be awarded as a requirements contract using lowest price technically acceptable evaluation procedures. The labels will meet EPC Global Class1, Generation II and ISO18000-6C standards.
