Navy awards $14.5M for upgraded aircraft data transfer systems

Physical Optics Corp. will develop data platforms for MH-60 and V-22 aircraft.

Physical Optics Corp. has been awarded a $14.5 million delivery order by the U.S. Navy to upgrade data transfer systems for the MH-60 and V-22 aircrafts, according to Washington Technology, a Defense Systems sister publication.

The current data transfer systems for 49 aircraft will be replaced with hardware and software developed by Physical Optics to provide an advanced digital data capability for military operations. The data transfer system is designed to provide enhanced situational awareness while reducing crew workload and improving navigation and missile planning capabilities.

This new contract follows a $13.5 million award in December 2012 from the Naval Air Systems Command to produce 85 digital data set systems for the T-45 aircraft.
