Navy awards HP $138M extension for getting from NMCI to NGEN
The contract modification enables the company to provide NMCI services until Sept. 30, when NGEN is expected to take over.
The Navy has given Hewlett Packard Enterprise Services a $138 million extension on its continuity of services contracts for the Navy Marine Corps Intranet, enabling the company to continue providing IT services for an extra three months.
The modification boosts the ceiling of the contract, first awarded in 2010, from roughly $5.6 billion to $5.74 billion, and extends services until Sept. 30. The existing contract was set to expire June 30 and would have exceeded its ceiling without the modification. Last year, the Navy awarded a similar modification to HP, extending services from April 30 to June 30.
The continuity of services contract is meant to maintain IT services while the Navy transitions from NMCI to its Next Generation Enterprise Network. In June 2013, HP won the $3.45 billion contract to HP Enterprise Services for NGEN, and held on to it after a couple of protests were filed.
HP’s team for NGEN includes AT&T Government Solutions, IBM Global Business Services Federal, Lockheed Martin Services and Northrop Grumman Systems.
