Australia deploys Shadow 200 UAS to Afghanistan

Australia has begun using the AAI Shadow 200 tactical unmanned aircraft system for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance and also target acquisition in Afghanistan, said the Australian Defence Department, reports Flightglobal.com.

The Shadow 200 replaces Australia's use of the Insitu ScanEagle UAS, which Australia has flown in Afghanistan since 2007, the story said. The ScanEagle flew approximately 6,200 missions in Afghanistan in support of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force.

The U.S. Army and Marine Corps also use the Shadow 200, which they designate as the RQ-7B.
