Naval Academy to use Lego kits for robotics education

The Naval Supply Systems Command Logistics center will solicit a sole-source procurement of Lego kits.

The Naval Supply Systems Command Logistics Center in Norfolk, Va., intends to solicit a sole-source procurement for Lego Mindstorm NXT Robotics Kits. They will be used by the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. The solicitation was posted on July 8.

Lego Mindstorm NXT kits allow users to build robots and use software to plan, test and modify sequences of instructions from a variety of real-life robotic behaviors. Lego Mindstorms features an advanced 32-bit computer-controlled NXT brick, interactive servo motors, Bluetooth communication and multiple downloading capabilities. Each kit includes touch, light, sound and ultrasonic sensors with compass, color and accelerometer add-ons.
