Oshkosh Truck will supply more MRAP armor
Army awards new contract to harden off-road version of Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle.
Armored vehicle maker Oshkosh Corp. will supply the U.S. Army with additional armor for the all-terrain version of the mine resistant ambush protected (MRAP) vehicle under terms of a $14.5 million contract awarded on Aug. 6.
The Wisconsin truck maker has served as the Army’s sole source for off-road MRAPs, or M-ATVs, since 2009. The firm, fixed price contract calls for supplying “A-kits,” or extra armor, for M-ATVs. Oshkosh was the sole bidder for the contract, the Army said.
Most of the estimated 4,500 M-ATVs built so far by Oshkosh were deployed in Afghanistan.
The Army said it was obligating procurement funds allocated in fiscal 2011 for the armor contract.
