Appel named to lead JIE implementation
The former Joint Chiefs liaison to the DOD CIO is also appointed to the Senior Executive Service.
Karin Appel has been appointed to the Senior Executive Service and assigned as director of the Joint Information Environment implementation within the Office of the Department of Defense Chief Information Officer, the Pentagon has announced. She most recently served as Appel previously served as the Joint Chief’s liaison to DOD CIO.
She previously on the leadership detail on intelligence strategic planning g and policy for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and, from 2001 to 2008, was director of IT management in the White House Military Office.
JIE is DOD’s ongoing modernization effort to create a department-wide, interoperable IT infrastructure. The goal is to enable secure information sharing among all the military services as well as coalition partners via a classified cloud.
