Russia to display armed drone at air show

Russia plans to unveil a medium-range armed unmanned aerial vehicle at the upcoming MAKS-2011 air show.

Russia plans to unveil its first armed, medium-range unmanned aerial vehicle at the upcoming MAKS-2011 air show scheduled for Aug. 16-21, reports MSN India.

The "Lutch" (Ray) UAV is designed to carry up to 15-170 kilograms of guided weapons on fuselage pilons, and also is capable of performing optical reconnaissance, radar, radio-relay and electronic reconnaissance missions, according to manufacturer Vega.

If the armed UAV is eventually deployed, Russia would become the second nation to field armed UAVs in addition to the United States, the media outlet said.
