Dempsey says military must adjust to viral reality

President Obama’s nominee for the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said June 1 that U.S. armed forces must adapt to an uncertain world that made possible the rapid spread of Arab revolutions in spring 2011 and the death of Osama bin Laden, reports Agence France-Presse.
The U.S. military must position itself to respond to “viral” and other game-changing events by using their imaginations "to touch the edges of what it might mean," Gen. Martin Dempsey told a group of defense chiefs from around the globe who gathered at the Royal United Services Institute defense think tank in London.
“What brought down Mubarak was Facebook and social networking, a leaderless organization that rose up and we call the Arab Spring. So things can happen much more quickly than in the past.”
