Apache gets first JTRS radio for aircraft platforms
The Army's AH-64D Apache helicopter will be the first aircraft to receive the airborne version of a net-enabled joint tactical radio under the Defense Department's Joint Tactical Radio System program.
AMF-JTRS, which enables personnel from all military services to share secure voice, data and video communications in real time, will stitch together more than 100 platforms, giving users connectivity where no communications infrastructure existed before, the company said.
The Army’s AH-64D Apache helicopter will be the first aircraft to receive the airborne version of a net-enabled joint tactical radio under the Defense Department’s Joint Tactical Radio System program, according to a contractor announcement July 14.
The Airborne, Maritime/Fixed Station Joint Tactical Radio System (AMF-JTRS) was provided to the Army’s Apache Avionics Lab for integration into the aircraft by Lockheed Martin, which is the team leader for the AMF-JTRS, overseeing subcontractors BAE, General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon.
