Army turns to ITT Exelis for SINCGARS equipment

The Army has placed a $56 million order with ITT Exelis for power amplifiers and vehicular adapters that can be used with existing radios operated by the U.S. Army and the National Guard, the company said Oct. 22.

The Vehicular Amplifier Adapter serves as an interface between the Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGARS) radio and the vehicular power source. The Radio Frequency Power Amplifiers boost a lower power radio signal to extend its range.

SINCGARS provides secure VHF voice and data communications capability to tactical units throughout the Army. Approximately 570,000 SINCGARS tactical radio systems have been delivered to U.S. and allied armies.
