DISA rolls out training for cloud site users

The Defense Information Systems Agency is setting up training for how to best use ProjectForge.

To support the widened deployment of its ProjectForge cloud computing environment, the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) is starting training on how to best use the open-source platform for Defense Department employees and other DISA customers.

“The training program will allow customers to take advantage of these tools, whether they are familiar with a similar platform [from another program], or if they haven’t used it before, or if they want support migrating environments. And we have additional consulting support available for that as well,” said Rob Vietmeyer, program manager for ProjectForge, a part of Forge.mil.

The program starts this month with sessions offering an introduction to the main platforms. Also, Webinars are being made available every other week, with topics including introductory guidelines, best practices in usage, new tools, customers sharing experiences, new capabilities and future releases, Vietmeyer said.

The training program is available to existing ProjectForge customers as well prospective customers, Vietmeyer said.

CollabNet and MTCSC, two information technology solutions companies, are teaming to support the effort. The initial training sessions are being held at the MTCSC campus in Stafford, Va.

“MTCSC’s open enrollment training will ensure a successful transition as organizations migrate software development projects to Forge.mil,” Drew Showers, CollabNet director for federal professional services, said in a statement. “This training program will enable developers and project administrators not yet working on Forge.mil to join the more than 4,000 people and more than 170 projects enjoying the benefits of Forge.mil.”

Beyond the initial on-site training sessions, there will be additional web-based training available, Vietmeyer said, starting with the on-boarding process and into data migration. Ongoing consulting support will also be available.
