DOD's new cyber strategy likely to outline 'active defense'

The Defense Department's upcoming cyber strategy codifies cyber operations, network defenses and international cooperation.

The Defense Department's soon-to-be-released cyber strategy formalizes the idea that cyberspace is just as important a sphere of military operations as air, land, sea and space, reports Philip Ewing at DOD Buzz.

The new document is also expected to call for "active defense" systems in military networks that use smart sensors and software to stop cyberattacks. Besides outlining DOD's overall strategy, the document is expected to stress building international network defenses with U.S. allies.
