The Army plans to put its prototype operating system of a smart phone known as the Joint Battle Command-Platform to test during the upcoming Network Evaluation Integration at White Sands Missile Range, N.M., reports Paul McLeary at Aviation Week’s Ares Blog.
The Army’s Evaluation Task Force (2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division) received its smart phones, which run on the Android operating system, and base stations in April from wireless communications company xG Technology Inc.
The system is capable of searching for up to six frequencies with which to transmit information and, if the signal strength is lost, it is capable of switching without interruption to stronger frequencies.
