Army tactical apps held up by security issues

The Army has developed about 80 digital applications for soldiers to use at the tactical level, but soldiers won't get those apps until the service crafts a network security policy to accommodate them, reports Defense News.
 
What the Army is beginning to grapple with regarding tactical apps are such hard questions as who will have access to the apps and how they will gain access, the story said. The new apps can perform such tasks as handling communications with a tactical operations center, tapping into an unmanned aerial vehicle feed and even calling in a medical evacuation via helicopter, reports Defense News.
 
The biggest hurdle to putting these applications into soldiers' hands remains policy regarding network security to accommodate the use of the new technologies and mobile devices, and that will take considerable time to resolve, Army officials told Defense News.
