Lockheed gets option to sustain Apache's electro-optical fire control system

Lockheed Martin has won a $90.6 million contract option from the Army to continue supporting the advanced electro-optical fire control system for the Apache helicopter, the company said recently.

Under the contract, the Bethesda, Md.-based contractor will deliver services that enable mission readiness, reduce operation and support costs, and drive reliability and maintainability improvements for the Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor (M-TADS/PNVS) system.

M-TADS/PNVS is the advanced electro-optical fire control system that Apache helicopter pilots use for safe flight in day, night or bad weather missions. It furnishes Apache pilots with long-range, electro-optical precision engagement and flying capabilities. 

The contract award is the first of three options under the $111 million contract awarded in 2012. The total estimated contract value over four years is $375 million.
