Elbit Systems of North America will upgrade night targeting systems for AH-1W Cobra helicopters under a five-year, $45.5 million contract.

As part of the Night Targeting System Upgrade project, the company will enhance optical systems to improve warfighters’ ability to detect, recognize and identify targets at stand-off ranges in all weather or light conditions, company officials said.

The upgrades will enable Cobra crews to extend the range at which they identify and engage targets, the officials said.

The company will perform the work in Merrimack, N.H. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, in Crane, Ind., is the contracting activity.
