Strong cyber defense requires better human skills

The best defense against cyberattacks on military assets is the establishment of strict security procedures for military and civilian personnel handling information, Air Force Space Command’s Vice Commander Lt. Gen. Michael Basla said April 1 in a speech at an Air Force Association-sponsored conference on cyber warfare.

Basla said that chasing technology, particularly in the fast-moving cyber doman, is an uphill battle and is not as sound a strategy for cyber defense as establishing stability and deliberate processes for humans involved in the fight, reports John Reed at DOD Buzz, in a summary of the speech.

Nevertheless, the Air Force intends to keep up with technology advances in cyber warfare even though there is almost no way to stay ahead of every new technology threat developed and fielded, Basla said.
