MRAP crews to get radios for satcom on-the-move

The Army and the Marine Corps have placed orders totaling $20 million for Harris' Falcon III AN/PRC-117G manpack radios and adapters for use in Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, company officials said Oct. 24.

One of the  key reasons for the purchase is to give soldiers and marines the ability to upgrade to Mobile User Objective System satellite communications.

The AN/PRC-117G radios will give the vehicle crews satellite communications on-the-move capabilities and potentially expand capabilities to a point at which crew members can stream video, receive simultaneous voice and data feeds, conduct collaborative chat sessions and connect to secure networks, the officials said.
