DISA seeks single global network by 2020

The Defense Information Systems Agency plans to develop a single wired and wireless global network by 2020 that will handle voice, video and data, according to a published notification.

The Defense Information Systems Agency plans to develop a single wired and wireless global network by 2020 that will handle voice, video and data, according to a May 2 request for information posted on the Federal Business Opportunities website.

The RFI states that DISA intends to replace its existing network transport contracts with a single contract that will cover Wi-Fi, cellular, satellite and broadband fiber-optic data circuits.

DISA expects by 2020 to operate a network with ubiquitous 100-gigabit-per-second circuits and also may require circuits that operate at speeds as high as 400 Gbps, the announcement said.

The new network contract would replace DISA’s Defense Information Systems Network Access Transport Services contract set to exist in 2016, the announcement said.
