Mercury Systems plant receives superior security rating from Defense Security Service

The plant's superior rating is the highest available to cleared defense contractors.

Mercury Systems’ Commercial Electronics facility in West Caldwell, NJ, received a “superior” security rating in a recent vulnerability assessment conducted by the Defense Security Service (DSS).

The superior rating is the highest level awarded to cleared defense contractors by DSS, and represents a two-level improvement from the facility’s previous rating. It follows superior ratings already received at Mercury’s headquarters facility in Chelmsford, MA, and its Mercury Commercial Electronics facility in Salem, NH.

A superior rating is reserved for contractors that consistently and fully implement the requirements of the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual in an effective fashion, resulting in a security posture that is superior to other contractors of similar size and complexity, according to a Mercury press release. The facility must have documented procedures that heighten the security awareness of employees and foster a spirit of cooperation within the security community.

Currently, less than 8 percent of the approximately 13,000 facilities that the DSS oversees receive a superior rating.
