Funding bill backs intell community’s IT consolidation
The House Intelligence Committee approves an authorization bill for 2014 that also would dedicate $75 million to battling insider threats.
The House Intelligence Committee has approved a bill that would fully fund a Director and National Intelligence effort to consolidate and modernize information technology, and includes $75 million dedicated to combatting insider threats, FCW’s Amber Corrin reports.
The legislation would establish policy and funding levels for the intelligence community in fiscal 2014, and although it would fund DNI’s consolidation initiatives, it would cut IT funding in other areas.
The insider threat initiative comes in wake of the National Security Agency’s spying scandal that broke after Edward Snowden, then an NSA contractor, took and then leaked as many as 200,000 documents from the agency.
The bill will now go to the House floor for consideration. A Senate version also has been approved by the Senate Intelligence Committee.
