Special Ops wants radios to hook into smart phones
The Special Operations Command is on the lookout for specialized radio equipment that can hook into smart phones.
Smart phones are increasingly becoming popular military tools in the U.S. military as shown by the Special Operations Command's search in industry for radios that can plug into Android mobile devices and cell networks.
The radios should be able to carry both voice and data simultaneously, have commercial and Global Positioning Satellite receivers and must be able to run military applications, writes Bob Brewin in NextGov.
In particular, the radio must be compatible with the military's map-based Tactical Ground Reporting system app, used by the U.S. Army in Afghanistan, the article said.
