The Navy is developing a sensor system for unmanned aircraft that would be able to distinguish a pirate vessel from other craft, reports UPI.com.

The Multi-Mode Sensor Seeker, which is being developed by the Office of Naval Research, would combine high-definition cameras, mid-wave infrared sensors and laser technology. The sensor would assemble the information for analysts to assess in a 3-D picture.

Tests of the sensor on the Fire Scout unmanned aircraft are scheduled for this summer, the story said.
