Air Force adds $1.45B to NETCENTS as delays in follow-on contract continue

A slew of protests over the Air Force's Network Centric Solutions 2 contract earlier this year has compelled the Air Force Electronics Systems Center to increase the value of the existing NETCENTS contract by $1.45 billion to $10.45 billion and extend it through September 2013 while it works to resolve the protests, reports NextGov.

The ESC said the extension of its original NETCENTS contract will protect against disruptions in the supply of hardware for Air Force global networks and also for cyber defense, the story said.

The Air Force awarded the NETCENTS 2 contracts, valued at $6.9 billion over 10 years, to more than a half dozen companies in April. Eighteen other companies subsequently protested the awards, the story said.

ESC reopened the competition to both winners and losers in May. The Air Force intends to release evaluation notices to NETCENTS 2 bidders this week, the story said.
