Army orders Nett Warrior radios from General Dynamics
General Dynamics C4 Systems has received a contract worth up to $11 million from the Army to furnish a lightweight, secure radio for Nett Warrior soldiers that will significantly improve their access to classified information.
General Dynamics C4 Systems has received a contract worth up to $11 million from the Army to furnish a lightweight, secure radio for Nett Warrior soldiers that will significantly improve their access to classified information, the company said Nov. 8.
Under a low rate initial production order, General Dynamics will furnish 2,052 radios, related equipment and engineering support. The company is scheduled to begin delivering the Nett Warrior radios in the first quarter of 2013.
The new Nett Warrior radio, which weighs less than two pounds, is part of the Handheld Manpack Small (HMS) Form Fit family of radios. It uses the Soldier Radio Waveform and offers users access to the government’s classified networks at either the secret or sensitive but unclassified levels.
General Dynamics is the prime contractor for the HMS program. The Nett Warrior Radio shares common technology with the HMS family and interoperates with the Rifleman Radio.
