In-Q-Tel invests in pair of cloud services providers

AppThwack, Socrata will further intelligence community’s shift to the cloud.

In-Q-Tel, the CIA’s investment arm, is partnering with two cloud services providers, AppThwack and Socrata Inc., Rutrell Yasin of sister publication GCN reports.

The partnership with AppThwack supports the company’s cloud-based application testing platform, the partners said. The goal is to improve the intelligence community’s ability to test app compatibility, functions and performance before deployment. Apps for mobile devices is a key focus.

New partner Socrata Inc. provides tools that could be used by intelligence analysts to squeeze more information out of raw data from multiple sources. Products include apps, reports and application programming. The company’s data portal allows users to move data to the cloud where it can be shared with others.

In July, In-Q-Tel announced an investment in Silicon Valley cloud security specialist HyTrust Inc. The investor said that investment was designed to improve control over virtual data centers.
