The Army Brief: Tripling 155mm production; Confederate troop memorial; HIMARS on target; and more...

Welcome to The Army Brief, a weekly look at the news and ideas shaping the service’s future.

Ammo stocks. The Army is working to triple the production of the 155mm howitzer round in the next few years after sending hundreds of thousands of rounds to Ukraine, Defense One reports. The service also wants to increase the production of GMLRS and HIMARS.

Removing memorial. A memorial for fallen Confederate troops buried at Arlington National Cemetery has been recommended for removal in the final report by the Naming Commission, Defense One reports. The recommendations laid out in the commission’s three reports are expected to cost $62.5 million.

Devastating weapons. The rocket systems the U.S. has sent to Ukraine has caused “significant damage” to Russian supply lines command centers, said Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Defense One reports. He said that Ukrainians had been able to hit more than 400 targets with their HIMARS.
