Unmanned aircraft system new arsenal in battling pirates

ScanEagle unmanned aircraft system is a new tool in the escalating war against pirates.

There’s a new piece of arsenal in the fight against piracy — Boeing’s ScanEagle, reports Colin Clark of DOD Buzz.

As pirates cover larger areas and take more and more hostages, an unmanned aircraft system such as the ScanEagle can assist in the task of patrolling, responding and being a force multiplier, the article states.

According to the U.S. Air Force website, the UAS is a portable system, which features three air vehicles, a ground control station, remote video terminal, and a launch and recovery system and provides “real-time direct situational awareness and force protection information.”
